Cheap California Auto Insurance | The California Low Cost Auto Insurance Program

The California Low Cost Auto Insurance Program

Did you know that finding cheap California auto insurance should be easier than you think? California has a program called the California Low Cost Auto Insurance program (CLCA) for qualified drivers. The program was started in 2000 for residents of Los Angeles County and the City and County of San Francisco only, but has since expanded.

The idea behind the program is to keep as many uninsured drivers off California roads as possible. California would rather subsidize insurance costs than to deal with the problem of having uninsured drivers, which can cost them more in the long run (costs of keeping people in jail, judging cases, etc).

Qualification for the California Low Cost Auto Insurance Program is based on a number of things:

1. Your income must be lower than the following: 1 person = $26,000, 2 persons = $35,000, 4 persons = $53,000, 8 persons = $89,000.

2. You must be a good driver and have no more than one at-fault property damage. only accident or more than one point for moving violation in the past three years.

3. You cannot have an at fault accident involving bodily injury or death in the past 3 years.

4. You must be least 19 years old

5. You have to have been continuously licensed to drive for the past three years

6. You must have a vehicle valued at less than the $20,000

How much will the CLCA cost?

You can get auto insurance through the CLCA for as little as $400 a year. That is significantly cheaper than regular auto insurance rates in California.

What does the CLCA cover?

The liability limits are $10,000 bodily injury or death per person, $20,000 bodily injury for each accident and $3,000 property damage for each accident. The limits are less than the mandatory limits required in California of $15/30/5, but purchasing these lower limits will satisfy the state’s current financial responsibility laws. Optional Medical Payments and Uninsured Motorist Bodily Injury Coverages are also available, but no Physical Damage Coverage is offered.
